AIM Mourns Marilyn

The staff at AIM Healthcare respectfully honors the memory of our friend Marilyn Chambers. Marilyn started a whole new meaning to the word "Porn Star" with the release of her movie "Behind the Green Door."

I first met Marilyn at a release party for that very production in Los Angeles. I was immediately struck by the kindness, and just how "real" Marilyn was. Her smile was amazing, her sexuality eruptive as a volcano, but underneath it all she was a real friend. We became more than acquaintances over the years to come, and followed each other on the road regularly with our Burlesque acts.

The most meaningful part of our friendship came when I first got clean and sober in 1991, and I was in a Sober Living Facility. Marilyn was about 7 years clean ahead of me at that time, and happily married and living in the horse country out in Temecula. I was in Pasadena and for the first three months that I was in the facility getting strong, she drove all that way each day at noon to take me out to an "NA Meeting" and lunch. I was so weak for the first few weeks she had to actually pick me up and place me in her car, and carry me into the meetings and restaurants. This is the true friendship of Marilyn that I know.

In the later years, life threw all of us a curve when our "Stardom" came to an end. I went into school, and Marilyn made a few "Comeback" movies, but it never seemed to make her happy. Eventually she completed her Nursing Education, and continued to be a dedicated Mother to her beautiful Daughter.

I believe Marilyn was on the verge of better things in her life. For whatever reason she moved on, I'm sure she is smiling that beautiful smile down on all of us.
