Almost 4 million Americans have been infected with the Hep C virus.
I have been aware of a case that has literally turned the Adult Industry on its head lately about Hepatitis C. I am bringing this case into light because not only do I think this is an important issue, but it is HOW it came about that is even more important.
I was approached by a client who, like most new people in the Adult Industry tested and vaccinated for Hep A and B and tested for Hep C by their second month in the biz. They had explained to me that they were a former IV drug user, and they have been clean for more than 2 years, and knew that they were at risk for HIV and Hep C some time ago. As it turns out, they had been exposed to Hepatitis C and tested positive for the antibody.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE A CARRIER OF HEP C AND THAT THEY CAN TRANSMIT HEP C SEXUALLY.
However, the childish behavior and gossip mongering in the porn business turned this person into typhoid Mary in about 2 days. Ruined her career, and turned this into a panic stricken situation short of HIV transmission.
I, as the founder of AIM and the clearing house for thousands of bills of health each year have grown tired of this witch hunting behavior. Why? Because only a handful of you use condoms and are at risk for each and every sexually transmitted disease each month!! This includes things much more sexually, transmittable than Hep C!! Herpes, HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HPV (warts), Mulloscum Contgium, and Trichamonis to name a few.
Now then, let's get one thing clear, if you think you are at risk for Hep C, COME IN AND GET YOURSELF SCREENED AND TESTED! BEFORE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS ON WHO WHAT AND WHERE YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED BY AND HOW.
Now then, here you go, if you want accurate info on the subject.
WHAT IS HEPATITIS C?
Hep C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), which is found in the blood of persons who have this disease. The infection is spread by contact with the blood of an infected person.
HOW SERIOUS IS HEPATITIS C?
Hepatitis C is serious for some persons, but not for others. Most persons who get hep C carries the virus for the rest of their lives. Most of these persons have some liver damage, but many do not feel sick form the disease. Some persons with liver damage due to hep C may develop cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver and liver failure, which may take many years to develop.
