WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM POSITIVE FOR CHLAMYDIA AND GONNORHEA?
You will get tested for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea each time you get tested for HIV. This STD test is done by urine. These results take 1-3 full days to come from the lab. If you are positive, you will be called by one of our staff. We will either call you in the clinic for a shot, and /or call in a prescription to your pharmacy. As a professional courtesy, we will ask you for your most recent partners, and offer to test and medicate them as well. If you have a private partner, they too must be medicated, as re infection can occur if you are not both medicated. This test is so sensitive that you must wait a full two weeks to re test, because the test will come up positive as it is so sensitive, it picks up a copy of the dead virus. We will give you a letter signed by our Medical Director stating when you were medicated. You may return to work 5 days after taking the medication.
WHAT IS CHLAMYDIA?
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that is easily caught by intercourse and sharing sex toys and yes, even if you stick your hand on one's privates and then directly on yours you can get this.
Chlamydia is curable, but when gone undetected can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (very painful) and sterility, not to mention congenital difficulties if you're pregnant. You and your partner(s) must be medicated or you can pass it back and forth.
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that may have a yellowy watery discharge in women (usually no smell) or you can have no symptoms at all. For men it can feel like a slight tingle in the urethra or men can be asymptomatic (experiencing no symptoms at all.)
The test that we perform at AIM is called a PCR urine test which can detect the disease rather quickly and is much less invasive than a swab. Both women and men can take this test.
If you have been exposed and have a partner(s) we will call in a prescription for you at the time of the test and enough meds for all involved. (Zithromax is preferable- 50mgs two pills). We offer free testing through the County of LA and we also have a quick two day turnaround test (that we charge for) if you need to know sooner. My recommendations are that you and your partner(s) get tested immediately and medicated ASAP. I also recommend that you take a follow up test about 3 weeks after diagnosis just to make sure no reinfection has occurred.
When playing with others, use one hand for yourself and the other hand with your partner(s), and use condoms on all toys. Use condoms when having private sex until you get a new negative result.
NEVER EVER SELF MEDICATE! All antibiotics are different and must be prescribed by a physician and remember sometimes chlamydia and gonorrhea go together. Usually we test for both, and again, get tested as a precaution every 90 days, if you can. Knowledge eliminates fear, so always praise yourself for asking questions.
